Founded in 1990 as a branch of Egyptian medical association it is an independent nonprofit organization and does not issue licenses. The internist receive necessary medical education and adequate clinical training for prophylaxis , diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect adults and adolescents after infancy and childhood before and without surgical interference .

Internal medicine include cardiovascular, critical care, clinical immunology, endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism, gastroentralogy, geriatric medicine, hematology, medical oncology, nephrology, pulmonary disease, neurology, rheumatology and sports medicine. The member of the society achieve a diploma, master degree, or doctorate in internal medicine.

The society transfer and propagate medical knowledge through annual congress, seminars, conferences. Also it provide specialized meetings for diabetes, hypertension and general internal medicine, mostly for senior members discussing one item or research work under the name of scientific clubs.
